The newest member of the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2023, G.G. Jackson, talks about his recruitment, upcoming goals, and the Tar Heels.
One of the most exciting and highly-anticipated recruitments in recent history came to a close a couple of months ago when top-ranked Gregory “G.G.” Jackson gave his commitment to Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
They beat out the likes of Auburn, Duke, Georgetown, and South Carolina in the process, reeling In a player that will make an immediate impact for the Tar Heels both on the offensive and defensive ends of the court when he arrives on campus next fall.
“I started to build a close relationship with Coach Davis, and he would constantly give me feedback and talk to me and constantly tell me that they wanted me, and that is what stuck out to me,” Jackson said. “The state alone, not even just the school, prioritized me and wanted G.G. Jackson. I tried to give the fans what they wanted, and I followed my heart and ended up at Carolina.”
Jackson is one-half of a two-man 2023 recruiting class for North Carolina, joining fellow five-star prospect and top-10 point guard Simeon Wilcher. Despite having just two commitments in the class, North Carolina ranks second in the 2023 cycle behind only Duke, who’s already lined up a five-man class with four five-star players.
“Me and Simeon are trying to do great things at Carolina, and we definitely want to leave a stamp with our names and legacy at Carolina,” Jackson said. “I can’t wait to get there. . .They play a lot of four-out, one-in, and I noticed that going into the Tournament. [I could be] kind of a guy like Leaky Black, but I feel like I will take more shots than him. I get a rebound; I can push it. I’m a guy that can come in and win ball games and put the ball in the basket.”
