CU Buffs’ Mya Hollingshed selected No. 8 overall in WNBA draft

Mya Hollingshed, who led the Colorado Buffaloes by averaging 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season, made history on Monday night when she was selected eighth overall by the Las Vegas Aces in the 2022 WNBA draft. Hollingshed is the first Colorado women’s basketball player to be selected in the first round of the WNBA draft.

At the end of the 2020-21 season, Hollingshed made the decision to stay in Boulder instead of declaring for the draft. That decision paid off mightily as her dominant performance as a fifth-year senior increased her draft stock and helped Colorado earn its first NCAA Tournament bid in nine years.

Hollingshed ends her career at CU as the Buffs’ all-time leader in games played with 141. She also finished sixth all-time in points (1,681), rebounds (911) and double-doubles (25). Plus, she was named first-team All-Pac-12 in her final two seasons.

The Aces will open their season on May 6 against the Phoenix Mercury with first year head coach Becky Hammon leading the group. Hammon played at Colorado State from 1995-99 and was named an All-American three times during her college career.
