Detroit Pistons' Hamidou Diallo to miss rest of NBA season with finger fracture

Hamidou Diallo will miss the rest of the 2021-22 season with a left index finger avulsion fracture, the Detroit Pistons announced Friday.

The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter of the Pistons’ home game against the Chicago Bulls on March 9. Diallo missed the next seven games, and will now miss the remaining nine.

It’s an unfortunate end to Diallo’s fourth NBA season. He was in the midst of a strong year, averaging 11 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals on a career-high 49.6% shooting. Diallo, 23, started 29 of his 58 games played, and found his niche has a spark plug and slasher. He signed a two-year, $10.4 million contract last offseason. The Pistons have a team option for next season on Diallo at $5.2 million.
