Morgan State Ends SC State Season With 66-53 Win at MEAC Tourney




NORFOLK, VA – Third-seed Morgan State placed three players in double figures and used a big second quarter to break open a close game and went on to a 66-53 win over sixth-seeded South Carolina State Thursday in quarterfinal action of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at the Scope Arena.

Ja’Niah Henson had 13 points to lead the Lady Bears, who also got 12 points each from Charlene Shepherd and Jayla Atmore. Ashia McCalla had nine rebounds to lead Morgan on the boards and also contributed nine points in the win, the third of the season over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bears, who improved to 18-7, will play in Friday’s 2 p.m. semifinal against Norfolk State, who defeated North Carolina Central 58-52 on Wednesday.

SC State, meanwhile, ended its campaign at 4-25. Three of the losses…
