SLU Exorcises its ArchBaron Cup Demons

In 1949, Jesuit priests from Saint Louis University performed an exorcism on a thirteen year-old boy. There aren’t a lot of concrete details known about it, but it forms the basis for the novel and the movie The Exorcist. On Saturday afternoon, a different sort of exorcism took place, in front of 10,000 people in the Chaifetz Arena.

After dropping five straight ArchBaron Cup matchups and 14 of the last 17, the Saint Louis University Billikens beat the Dayton Flyers 72-61. It was a wild match that included plenty of physical play, some talking, and a cameo from a Billiken legend. Yuri Collins continued his hot streak, dropping 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, and Marten Linssen scored 17 points on 5-5 shooting, making 7 of his 8 free throw attempts as well. Flyer freshmen tandem of Da’Ron Holmes and Malachi Smith never got themselves going, with Smith looking visibly frustrated throughout the second half.
