Vince Williams set a new career-high of 21 points as the Rams used the second half to separate themselves from the Hawks of St. Joseph’s.
VCU (11-6; 4-2 A10) went into the first media timeout going 0-4 from the floor and letting the Hawks run out to a 8-0 lead.
But, the Rams used the next five minutes to go on a 13-0 run of their own and take the 18-8 lead.
KeShawn Curry provided the Rams their lone bucket in the final 4 minutes of the first half, as the Hawks ran off an 11-0 run to close the first 20 minutes.
Curry ended the night with 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Levi Stockard (6 points) opened the second half for the Rams, and started what would be an 8-0 run in the initial 75 seconds of the second.
St. Joe’s managed to get the game knotted up at 36 points, but a dunk by DeLoach would put the Rams ahead for the final time as VCU ran out to a 70-54 victory..
Williams then scored 11 of his career-high 21 points in the final 13 minutes. He also ended his night with 7 rebounds.
