Tar Heels trending down in ESPN Bracketology

College GameDay heading to Durham

Going into the month of February, it appeared as if the UNC basketball program was heading in the right direction riding a four-game win streak.

But after a disappointing 65-64 loss to Pitt on Wednesday, the Tar Heels now may face an uphill climb to March. The Tar Heels have already played the ‘easier’ portion of their ACC schedule and face a gauntlet the rest of the month beginning with Saturday’s showdown at Duke.

Going into that game, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Tar Heels trending the wrong way in his latest Bracketology.

Lunardi updated his Bracketology on Friday and has the Tar Heels as a No. 9 seed in the East Region. They would face off against No. 8 Auburn with the winner getting a shot at No. 1 Kansas in Des Moines.

In his previous update, Lunardi had the Tar Heels as a No. 8 seed and not trending up or down. It’s clear the loss hurt the Tar Heels and a string of losses in February could doom them in terms of the tournament. However, picking up a Quad 1 win on Saturday would change some things for the better too.
