EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern Sullivan-Ubben head men’s basketball coach Chris Collins unveiled the program’s coaching staff for the 2022-23 season on Wednesday afternoon. Veteran collegiate coach Chris Lowery has joined the Wildcats staff as an assistant coach. Additionally, alum Bryant McIntosh has been elevated to assistant coach, while Brian James has been appointed as special assistant to the head coach.
Lowery comes to Evanston after spending the previous 10 seasons as associate head coach at Kansas State. He played an instrumental role in one of the most successful stretches in K-State history, which included 170 wins, two Big 12 regular-season championships (2013 and 2019) and five NCAA Tournament appearances (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019). The Wildcats’ two conference titles are the second-most by a Big 12 school during that span including the 2012-13 championship, Kansas State’s first in the Big 12, and the first conference title by the school in more than 36 seasons.
The Evansville, Ind. native brings eight years of head coaching experience to the bench, guiding his alma mater Southern Illinois to a 145-116 (.556) record from 2004-12. The Salukis made four postseason appearances, claimed three Missouri Valley titles and averaged 18.1 wins per season. Lowery’s SIU teams made three NCAA Tournament appearances (2005, 2006, 2007) and reached the Sweet 16 in 2007. He was named the league’s coach of the year twice (2005, 2007).

McIntosh will be an on-court coach in 2022-23 after serving as the program’s assistant director of basketball operations the last three seasons. McIntosh is one of NU’s most accomplished players ranking sixth all-time in the school’s record book with 1,683 career points, while leading the Wildcats to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
