WATCH: Buzzer-beaters steal the show on February’s first college basketball Monday

Facebook

You might’ve thought the first Monday of February would be a quiet night of college basketball with only one ranked vs. ranked matchup on the table.

You would’ve thought wrong. Conference clashes around the country stole the spotlight thanks to exciting buzzer-beater finishes. Here’s what you might have missed:

Norfolk State draws it up perfectly

MEAC leader Norfolk State saw its one-game advantage at stake, tied 78-78 with North Carolina Central at home with 2.2 seconds left. The Spartans then drew up a great play for Brian Moore Jr. to get a good look to win the game.

And win the game he did.

“This. Is. Sparta,” exclaimed the announcer, quoting the legendary scene from the movie 300. Moore’s shot might be just as legendary a moment for the Spartans of the 757. Here’s a courtside angle of the shot.

The bank is open for Stephen F. Austin

Normally, banks like to close at around 5 p.m. local time, but shortly after 9:30 p.m. in New Orleans, the bank was open for Stephen F. Austin’s Matt Hayman.

In overtime, New Orleans tied Stephen F. Austin at 85 a-piece with 2.3 seconds to play with a clutch three-pointer. That’s when Hayman caught the inbound pass, took one dribble and let it fly from beyond half-court.

After trailing by as many as 11 points, Stephen F. Austin came out on top in overtime. The Chiefs and Eagles are in New Orleans for the Super Bowl, but the Lumberjacks stole the show Monday night. Here’s another look at the shot.
