LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lee University women’s basketball team pulled off its second consecutive road win on Saturday afternoon, defeating host University of West Alabama 65-56 in another hard-fought GSC contest. The win moved the Lady Flames into third place in the conference standings and in front of the University of West Florida by one-half game. Lee improved to 11-4 in the league standings and 17-4 overall. The battling Tigers dropped to 3-12, 3-16.
The Lady Flames return home for two important GSC contests on Thursday and Saturday. They will face dangerous Valdosta State University at 5:30 p.m. and then host the showdown with rival West Florida on Saturday at 2 p.m.
With a pair of starters, including Mallory Hampton remaining on the sideline with injuries, several Lady Flames picked up the pace against a determined West Alabama team. Haylee Johnson again led Lee with 16 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. She made 7-of-16 shots overall.
Kara Williams nailed three big triples and had 13 points while Mia Hurst connected on two triples and posted nine points. Bailey Burgess hit one three and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line (5 points) and Abby McFarland canned the other long-range shot. Anna Muhonen had her best performance on the glass this season, pulling down 11 rebounds. She was also 3-of-6 from the field and finished with six points.
