In a 2024 NCAA women’s basketball tournament rematch, the Colorado Buffaloes (12-6, 3-4 Big 12) will host the No. 10 Kansas State Wildcats (19-1, 7-0 Big 12) on Saturday.
Both teams are in vastly different states compared to when CU took down K-State in the Round of 32 last March. Colorado is struggling to build chemistry with a new-look roster while the Wildcats are surging toward a deep NCAA Tournament run.
K-State boasts the nation’s fourth-best defense in points allowed (52 per game) and the second-most efficient offense (50.7% field goal), led by fifth-year center Ayoka Lee. The longtime Wildcat is as consistent a big as anyone in the country, averaging 18.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.7 blocks for her career. However, as announced by Kansas State on Monday, Lee is out indefinitely with a fractured bone in her foot.
Senior guard Serena Sundell, the current national leader in assists per game (7.5), will likely have to step up for the Wildcats.
For Colorado to have a chance to play David to the Goliath of Kansas State, senior guard Frida Formann will likely have to sling more stones than her team-leading 13.6 points per game.
Tipoff from the CU Events Center on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. MT (ESPN+).
