Auburn basketball remains atop USA TODAY Coaches Poll in week 11

Auburn basketball earned two key SEC wins last week, which allowed them to hang on to their No. 1 ranking in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll for the second week in a row.

The Tigers took down then-No. 18 Mississippi State by 20 points in front of the home crowd last Tuesday before escaping Athens with a two-point win over No. 23 Georgia on Saturday. After losing to Auburn and Tennessee last week, Georgia is out of this week’s top-25 poll. Mississippi State, however, jumped to No. 14 after earning a major redemption win over then-No. 21 Ole Miss, who had beaten No. 5 Alabama in midweek action.

Five SEC teams make up this week’s top 10. Outside of Auburn, every top-10 SEC squad took a loss last week. Alabama is up two spots to No. 3 after losing to Ole Miss at home before bouncing No. 9 Kentucky on the road. Florida fell to No. 6 this week after losing a heartbreaker to Missouri in midweek action, then bouncing back to defeat Texas by 24 points.

Tennessee continues its fall by sliding to No. 7 this week. After beating No. 23 Georgia in Knoxville to open the week, the Volunteers lost a game to rival Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday. Finally, Kentucky remains at No. 9 after smashing then-No. 11 Texas A&M and losing at home to Alabama.

Four additional SEC teams earned a spot in the top-25. Texas A&M and Mississippi State check in at No. 13 and No. 14 respectively while Ole Miss benefits from a midweek win at Alabama by jumping five spots to No. 16. Missouri emerges from the depths of the “receiving votes” category to claim the No. 24 spot in this week’s rankings.

Auburn’s next game will feature a top-10 clash with the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday live from Neville Arena in Auburn.
