Kim Mulkey has LSU women’s basketball back in the AP poll’s top five

In the most recent edition of the AP poll, LSU women’s basketball saw a change in its ranking.

The Tigers sit at No. 5 in the January 13 release of the weekly poll. It is the second-highest SEC team behind No. 2 South Carolina and leads No. 7 Texas, which dropped two spots from last week.

LSU maintained an 18-0 record heading into the week following a two-point win over Tennessee, which claimed one spot to No. 15. The Tigers are one of three undefeated teams in the poll in addition to No. 1 UCLA and No. 9 Ohio State.

Seven SEC teams rank in the top 24. Kentucky jumped three spots to No. 12 with wins over Auburn and Florida while Oklahoma dropped three spots to No. 13 after a loss to Mississippi State.

Head coach Kim Mulkey’s team has a chance to remain in the top five next week. The Tigers posted a win over Vanderbilt on Monday and play Florida on Sunday. Following the contest in Gainesville, LSU will turn its attention to a potential top-five matchup against the Gamecocks in Columbia on January 23.
