Texas A&M G Wade Taylor IV will miss Tuesday road test vs Kentucky

Updated Texas A&M basketball availability report before facing Texas

No. 11 Texas A&M (13-3, 2-1) will take on No. 8 Kentucky (13-3) on the road for a Tuesday night SEC showdown just three days after the Aggies fell to Alabama 94-88 due to poor perimeter defense, and going 28-48 from the free throw line.

The Aggies have missed their star point guard Wade Taylor IV for the past week. Without the senior player, Texas A&M ended Week 10 with a 1-1 record, beginning with a hard-fought 80-78 victory against Oklahoma, followed by a loss to the Crimson Tide.

What we learned from the Taylor-less Aggies was clear: This team is tough and very resilient despite slow starts and poor shooting. If the free-throw efficiency improves, defeating Kentucky on the road isn’t a pipe dream. However, according to the latest SEC Availability report, Wade Taylor will reportedly miss his third consecutive game.

Taylor’s injury is unknown, but based on his previous groin injury sustained against Purdue, he may have aggravated said lower-body injury in the win against Texas before returning.

Strategically, Taylor’s absence isn’t ideal against another top-10 team on the road. Still, coach Buzz Williams is being smart before hosting LSU on Saturday night, which could pose as Taylor’s return to the lineup if he makes progress this week.

Kentucky will be without guard Kerr Krissa (4.4 ppg), while Andrew Carr (11.3 ppg) is probable to play.

Texas A&M will return to face No. 6 Kentucky at Rupp Arena on Jan. 14 at 6:00 p.m. CST. The game can be watched on ESPN2.
