Much like Colorado men’s basketball, the start of Big 12 Conference play hasn’t been kind to the Cincinnati Bearcats.
With the two teams set to meet on Wednesday evening in Boulder, both are 0-4 in conference games, meaning one will earn that elusive first win this week.
Cincinnati, once ranked No. 20 in the preseason USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, has arguably played worse than Colorado in conference play. The Bearcats’ offense scored only 88 combined in their past two losses against Baylor (68-48) and Kansas (54-40). While the Jayhawks are among the Big 12’s best teams, Cincinnati shot only 30.5% from the field against Kansas on Saturday.
Led by Julian Hammond III, Colorado has been competitive in its past two losses. The Buffs fell to UCF, 75-74, last week before coming up short against West Virginia on Sunday, 78-70.
Colorado starters Elijah Malone and RJ Smith left Sunday’s game early and should be considered questionable to play against Cincinnati.
Tipoff between Colorado and Cincinnati is set for 7 p.m. MT (ESPN+) at the CU Events Center.
