The Florida basketball program earned its first weekly Southeastern Conference honor of the season on Monday with forward/center Alex Condon earning a share of the Player of the Week award. The sophomore was named Co-SEC Player of the Week along with Alabama Crimson Tide guard Mark Sears.
Condon logged a pair of double-doubles against the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers and Arkansas Razorbacks, respectively. In the historic blowout of the Vols, the native of Perth, Australia, logged 12 points, 12 rebounds and four assists with zero turnovers.
That was the first time this century that a player went 12-12-4 without a turnover against a No. 1 team. He is just the eighth player in this century to post those numbers in SEC play regardless of rankings.
The 6-foot-11-inch frontcourt force followed that up by logging 12 points and 10 rebounds with three blocks along with another 4:0 performance against the Hogs. Condon put up five straight points to help ice the game in the closing minutes while also sealing the deal on his weekly hardware.
It marks the first time Condon has earned the award in his short collegiate career as well as the first time a Gator was named since Tyrese Samuel on Nov. 27, 2023.
This season, Condon has averaged 11.0 points per game along with 8.1 rebounds — 3.3 offensive, 4.8 defensive — 2.3 assists and 1.6 blocks per game. His offensive rebound average ranks 24th in the nation, tied with Maryland Terrapins forward Julian Reese.
The sophomore is shooting .491 overall from the field (57-for-116) and a robust .429 from 3-point range (9-for-21) this year, though he has only hit his free throws at a .646 clip (53-for-82).
