Lady Flames Rebound With Solid 73-57 Victory Over AUM


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Rebounding from a disappointing defeat on Thursday, the Lee University women’s basketball team turned in a solid performance on both ends of the floor in defeating Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday afternoon by a 73-57 score. The victory improved the Lady Flames to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in GSC play. The Warhawks dropped to 3-4, 1-1.

Lee started slowly and led 14-8 at the end of the first period. The Lady Flames outscored the Warhawks 16-13 in the second quarter and claimed a 30-21 lead at the half. The third frame saw Lee outscore the home team 20-17 and opened up 59-43 lead. The margin grew to 24 points in the final period and allowed Coach Marty Rowe to clear his bench.

Mallory Hampton paced the win with a 23-point performance. She made 9-of-15 shots overall and hit 3-of-4 3-pointers. Hampton also dished off five assists to her teammates. Mia Hurst tallied 13 points. She hit 5-of-9 shots from the field and 3-of-7 triples. Anna Muhonen followed with 12 points. She made 6-of-9 shots. Baylee Delbridge came off the bench to lead the rebounding with eight and Addison Smith pulled down seven.  

Overall, Lee had an excellent team shooting percentage, making 29-of-55 attempts from the field (59.7). The team hit 7-of-18 3-pointers (39%) and 8-of-10 free throws. The Lady Flames outrebounded the Warhawks 32-26 and forced 17 turnovers.

AUM was led by a perfect shooting mark (4-of-4) from the field and 14 points by Danielle Luckey. She was also the leading rebounder with five. Samya Brooks was the only other Warhawk in double figures, tallying 12 points.

The Lady Flames will return to Walker Arena and host the University of West Alabama on Thursday evening in the first game of a doubleheader which will begin at 5:30. They will play their final home date next Saturday before the Christmas break in a key twinbill against University of Alabama in Huntsville. It will also begin at 5:30 p.m.
