Bangot Dak’s stellar night guides Colorado men’s basketball past CSU

Colorado’s defense shined and sophomore Bangot Dak enjoyed a career-high scoring night in the Buffs’ 72-55 win over rival Colorado State on Saturday evening.

Playing in his 32nd career game, Dak doubled his previous scoring-high by contributing 16 points off the bench. The 6-foot-11 forward from Nebraska shot 7-for-8 from the field while contributing three offensive rebounds and an assist.

“It felt pretty good,” Dak said. “The game also felt a lot easier because recently, I feel I haven’t been on my game. Now I feel like the rhythm’s starting to come through. I felt really good out there.”

Colorado never trailed on its home court and led by as many as 26 points, holding CSU to a feeble 31.3% clip from the field.

“Defensively, I felt that we exerted our will,” CU head coach Tad Boyle said. “They felt our presence a little bit in that first half and, for the most part, did a pretty good job.”

Behind Dak, Julian Hammond III scored 13 points and Elijah Malone had 10. Trevor Baskin also flirted with a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Now 7-2, the Colorado men’s basketball team will host South Dakota State on Friday (7 p.m. MT, ESPN+) in its penultimate nonconference game.
