Mid-Major Madness has selected Saint Louis senior guard Isaiah Swope as the Men’s Mid-Major Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 25 – Dec. 1 after leading a pair of wins.
Under newly minted head coach Josh Schertz, it’s been an up-and-down start to the season that’s seen wins, losses and some key injuries.
However, behind Swope, the Billikens have persevered to a 5-2 record behind three straight wins all led by the Indiana State transfer.
As Saint Louis battled to an 81-67 win over the MAAC Preseason Favorites in Quinnipiac on Monday, Swope managed a team-leading 30 points and added six assists, four boards and two steals.
Two days later, Swope helped to stave off a comeback effort from UMass-Lowell. His 26 points and six assists marked a team-high as Swope notched the game-winning free throws to secure a 93-90 win.
To continue that momentum into this week, Swope contributed 18 points, seven assists and five rebounds to defeat Jackson State 74-66 for the Billikens’ third straight win.
Honorable Mention
Owen Koonce (Cal Poly)
Koonce managed 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win over Grambling before leading an upset at Stanford with a career-high 30 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
