CRESSON, Pa. – The women’s basketball team traveled to Mount Aloysius and found stride in the second half but were defeated by the Mounties 65-53 on Wednesday night.
Inside the Box Score
Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven High School) led the Blazers with 11 points with six rebounds.
Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John’s Catholic Prep) dropped 10 points with nine rebounds on the night.
Mari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) scored eight while dishing five assists.
How it Happened
Between Blazers and Mounties, and this being a race, Hood definitely shot out the gate with momentum as they had two scores in transition within the first minutes to set the tone for the night. A couple of free throws by Lee extended the lead to 7-3 and on pace.
However, the Mounties found some acceleration thanks to taking advantage of turnovers and shooting their highest clip of the night by the end of the first.
Although points were tallied at the line, Hood soon found themselves behind by 18 by half.
Out of the half, Hood was able to string some shots together to keep up with Mount Aloysius led by Faust who found open space at her sweet spot on the court and found the bottom of the bucket.
Later, when Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) subbed in with fresh legs for the Blazers she immediately made an impact with a tough contact and a made basket with the extra shot made. Betley would cash in another fast break layup on the next possession to keep the heat on.
The fourth would find that deficit teeter but ultimately the final push still resulted the score out of reach for our blue and grey.
Analysis
The Blazers shot 31 percent from the field, 11 percent from three.
Hood shot 57 percent in the third quarter, the only quarter they outscored Mount Aloysius.

For the Opponent
