PISCATAWAY, N.J. โย A historic performance from Destiny Adams pushed Rutgers women’s basketballย (2-0) past NJIT (1-2), 94-84, Sunday afternoon at Jersey Mike’s Arena. ย
Adams recorded a 36-point, 22-rebound double-double, the highest in the Big Ten era for the Scarlet Knights and the 10th of her career. Kiyomi McMiller also broke through with 25 points against the Highlanders. ย
Chyna Cornwell helped Adams on the boards, bringing in 15 rebounds, her third consecutive contest with 10+ off the glass. ย
It was another close one through the first half for RU, featuring six lead changes and five ties. However, Rutgers came alive once again in the second half, outscoring the Highlanders by 19 in the third quarter to solidify the win. ย
How it Happenedย
- Destiny Adams got Rutgers out to a quick 3-0 start with a layup and free throw on the team’s first two possessions. ย
- NJIT responded with five consecutive points to go ahead by two, 5-3, with just under eight minutes to play. Adams tied it up on the next trip down the floor, with an offensive rebound and put back. ย
- Despite a three-pointer from the Highlanders, Adams added four points to put RU back in front, 9-8. Adams scored all nine of Rutgers’ points. ย
