“Blood.”
That was Joe Mazzulla’s response to what he tasted when he kissed the parquet before receiving his ring on Opening Night.
What a quote.
As we know, Mazzulla is always great for some great one-liners and banner day was no different.
Saying that he is not going to wear his championship ring because it is “too big” is incredible.
Joe Mazzulla on his championship ring:

The season-opening win was a reminder of why we all love Mazzulla. He is an elite basketball coach who loves coaching the Celtics and might be a little crazy.
The Knicks had an effective field goal percentage of 62.2% and shot 57.6% from the field in the first three quarters of the game, but Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns did not play in the fourth quarter.
It didn’t matter because Mazzulla ball was at its apex.
The Celtics were so good that it had people including Celtics haters believing that it was bad for basketball!
This is in no way a shot at Boston because 1. Competitors should take every advantage they can and 2. Boston is many levels better at this than all the other NBA teams.
But yeah, the NBA is entering into dangerous territory with this as a television product. https://t.co/xYRqGsegkz

Their blowout of their rivals showed that Mazzulla ball is about more than just taking and making more threes than the other team, which the Celtics did at 29/61 compared to the Knicks 11/30.
The Celtics also had eleven offensive rebounds and three turnovers to New York’s five offensive rebounds and eleven turnovers. Boston took 95 shots compared to New York’s 78 shots.
“Dominate the margins. Dominate the possessions.”
That is my favorite Mazzulla quote because it is what makes Boston so hard to beat — they are always going to out math the opponent.
The roster is obviously great, or else the style they play wouldn’t matter, and they would be championship contenders whether they played this way or not. It is the way they play is what makes them historically dominant.
Joe had his team ready to go after what was a very emotional pregame ceremony and then the fellas went out and played the way Mazzulla has preached for 2-plus years now, leading to another dominate Celts win.
