SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s basketball team is set to participate in the Cayman Islands Classic Nov. 28-30 at the John Gray Gymnasium at George Town, Grand Cayman, where the Utes will take on Mississippi State Nov. 28 and Notre Dame Nov. 30.
“We are really looking forward to playing in the Cayman Islands Classic,” said head coach Lynne Roberts. “We know the quality of teams in this tournament are always NCAA Tournament caliber teams and we are excited to take on that challenge. These games will be an asset to gauge where we are at as we head into the Big12 conference season.”
Utah is among five teams that advanced to postseason play during the 2023-24 season and one of two teams to make an NCAA tournament appearance, the second being Notre Dame, which made it to the Sweet 16.
In addition to Notre Dame and Mississippi State, the Cayman Islands Classic field includes TCU and University of South Florida.
This will be the fourth meeting between Mississippi State and Utah. Utah has a 1-2 record in the series, with the lone win coming in December of 2002. This will be the Utes’ first match up with Mississippi State since 2010.
Utah has taken on Notre Dame three times in school history with the most recent matchup in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
Utah will enter the 2024-25 season coming off its third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, and returns four starters from last year’s team that advanced to the Round of 32.
The Utes’ 2024-25 schedule begins with a pair of home games against two in-state opponents, facing Southern Utah on Nov. 4 and Weber State on Nov. 7.
