PITTSBURGH – Head coach Jeff Capel announced the additions of former player KJ Marshall and student manager Matt Watson to the staff, Wednesday afternoon. Marshall and Watson, both 2024 graduate of Pitt, will serve as graduate managers for the program.
Marshall appeared in 25 games over three seasons at Pitt and played one season each at Mars Hill and Garden City Community College. A valued walk-on throughout his career, Marshall was known for bringing tremendous energy to practice and providing excellent scout team looks in game preparation. In his new role with the Panthers, Marshall assists the coaching staff with practice planning, scout team preparation, skills work, and overall player development.
Watson joined the Pitt Men’s Basketball program as a graduate manager in July of 2024 after spending the previous four seasons as a student manager with program. In his current role, Watson assists the coaching staff and director of operations in all logistics with the program. As head team manager in 2023-24, Watson served as liaison between managers, coaches, opposing teams, and various university personnel. He also assists the Director of Basketball Operations in executing day-to-day operations with the program and was involved in data analytics and video breakdown with Synergy Sports. He also served as a student equipment manager and worked Pitt Basketball Youth Summer Camps throughout his time as an undergrad.
Pitt opens the 2024-25 season Monday, Nov. 4 at the Petersen Events Center against Radford.
