PARIS – The Blue Devils continued competition at the 2024 Olympics on Saturday with action in golf, basketball and track and field. Here is a recap from action on Aug. 10 in France.

Tatum, United States Defeat France to Capture Gold Medal

Jayson Tatum
secured his second career Olympic gold medal as the United States held off a rally by host France for a 98-87 victory in Saturday’s final. Tatum contributed two points, three rebounds and a steal in 11 minutes of action off the bench.

A standout at Duke in 2016-17, Tatum also won gold with USA at the Tokyo Olympics. 

Boutier Cards Top-20 Finish for France

Former Duke women’s golf standout Celine Boutier closed action at the Olympics in France with a top-20 finish, which was contested at the Le Golf National in Paris. Boutier, a native of France, played the last four days in front of her home fans, including one day of leading the field. 

 

A 2016 Blue Devil graduate, Boutier posted rounds of 65, 76, 71 and 74 for a 2-under, 286, to finish tied for 18th. 

 

Representing Slovenia in the Olympics for the first time, 2020 Duke graduate Ana Belac totaled scores of 77, 72, 76 and 76 for a 301, which was tied for 49th. 

 

Seeing action in her third Olympics for Ireland, 2018 Blue Devil graduate Leona Maguire closed strong with a 1-under-par, 71, to finish 59th.  She posted four birdies in her final round. 

 

Lydia Ko (278) of New Zealand, Esther Henseleit (280) of Germany and Xiyu Lin (281) of China were the medal winners.

 

Canada Places Sixth in Women’s 4x400m Relay

Team Canada concluded track and field competition Saturday in the women’s 4×400-meter relay final, closing the door on the 2024 Paris Olympics with a sixth-place finish. Canada turned in its best race of the season on the biggest stage as the women’s quartet clocked a season’s best time of 3:22.01.

Former Duke all-American and relay alternate Maddy Price did not compete.
