Serbia is in Group C, joined by the United States, Puerto Rico and South Sudan. It begins play Sunday at 11:15 a.m. ET against Team USA at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, France.
Plavšić and his countrymen will then take the court Wednesday against Puerto Rico, at the same time and in the same venue. The squad will round out group play Aug. 3 at 3 p.m. ET versus South Sudan, also at Pierre Mauroy Stadium.
This is the first Olympic appearance for Plavšić, who will play alongside three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić, Bogdan Bogdanović and Nikola Jović, among others.
A 7-foot, 265-pound center from Ivanjica, Serbia, Plavšić graduated from Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn. He then spent one year at Arizona State, where he redshirted, before transferring to Tennessee.
Plavšić competed for the Volunteers from 2019-23, appearing in 101 games. He made 45 starts, including 41 over his final two campaigns.
During his Tennessee career, Plavšić helped the team to an 87-42 record, three NCAA Tournament berths, a Sweet 16 trip and the 2022 SEC Tournament title.
Plavšić averaged 3.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as a Volunteer, while shooting 57.3 percent from the floor. As a senior in 22-23, he put up 4.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest and notched a blistering 63.6 percent field-goal clip.
In 2023-24, Plavšić began his professional career with KK Mega Basket in his home nation of Serbia. He averaged 15.2 points on 65.3 percent field-goal shooting, 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 25.3 minutes per game across 27 appearances in the renowned ABA League. Next year, Plavšić is set to play for nine-time reigning Serbian League champion KK Crvena Zvezda, which is also in the elite EuroLeague.
There are a school-record 32 representatives from Tennessee at the Paris 24 Olympics, including three in the sport of basketball.
