Bullett to Be Inducted into DC Sports Hall of Fame

WASHINGTON, DC — Maryland women’s basketball legend Vicky Bullett will be inducted into the DC Sports Hall of Fame this Sunday, July 21 at Nationals Park.

Nine individuals and one Team of Distinction make up the Washington DC Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The formal induction ceremony will be held at Nationals Park on Sunday prior to the Washington Nationals-Cincinnati Reds game. The ceremony is scheduled for approximately 12:30 p.m., followed by the game’s first pitch at 1:35 p.m. Gates will open at 12:15 p.m. The names of all DC Sports Hall of Fame inductees are prominently displayed at Nationals Park, the site of the induction ceremony.

Vicky Bullett played for Maryland from 1986-89 and left as the program’s leading scorer (1,928) and rebounder (968). Bullett’s career scoring average of 16.9 points per game is second only to fellow Olympian Alyssa Thomas (17.5) and her 21.4 points per game during her senior season are still a Maryland single-season record. She led Maryland to three ACC Championships, the Elite Eight as a junior in 1988 and to the Final Four as a senior in 1989 when she was named the ACC Player of the Year.

Bullett competed with Team USA in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, where they won gold and bronze medals, respectively. Bullett was drafted in the initial WNBA Draft in 1997 and played for the Charlotte Sting and the Washington Mystics. She was a WNBA All-Star in 1999 and was named to the Mystics Hall of Fame in 2022. She was inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Bullett will be inducted alongside Bruce Bradford, Charley Casserley, E.B. Henderson, Chamique Holdsclaw, Dave Johnson, Emil “Dutch” Leonard, Eddie Pope, Ryan Zimmerman and the 1984 Georgetown Men’s Basketball team will be honored as a Team of Distinction.
