YouTubeTV Wanted To Partner With WBD On NBA Media Rights Package

NBA Raises Projected Salary Cap For 22-23 To $122M

YouTubeTV approached Warner Bros Discovery this spring about working together on a joint bid for NBA media rights, reports John Ourand at Puck News. The timing of the approach came after WBD’s exclusive negotiating window ended. YouTubeTV had been in the mix for the bid that eventually went to Amazon and wanted a way back into a deal.

Talks between the two parties never became serious, but they didn’t completely end either. WBD is on the verge of exercising its match rights option on the Amazon package, but does not appear to be doing so in partnership with YouTubeTV.

WBD believes the combination of its own Max streaming service and its linear television channels should be enough to match Amazon’s reach. The NBA is believed to have already moved on from TNT and will battle to do so in the courts if necessary.
