In the opener of the NBA 2K25 Summer League 2024 for both teams, the Houston Rockets will face the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The game will be televised to a national audience on ESPN.

Houston’s summer squad will be led by Reed Sheppard, the No. 3 overall pick from the first round of the 2024 NBA draft. Other standout names for the Rockets include 2023 first-round selection Cam Whitmore, who won summer-league MVP last season, and 2022 first-round pick AJ Griffin.

The summer Lakers, of course, are headlined by second-round selection Bronny James — the son of NBA legend LeBron James. For the younger James, Sheppard, and many others, Friday’s game will effectively serve as their introduction to the league on a national scale.

Here’s our look at broadcast details and potential lineups.

  • Date: Friday, July 12
  • Time: 6:30 p.m. CDT
  • TV Channel: ESPN
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free) or via Watch ESPN, with active subscription

Because this is the first Las Vegas summer-league game for each team, there is no prior lineup on which to base these projections from. Thus, it is simply our best guess after perusing each roster. The Lakers did use this lineup in the California Classic summer games.

Houston Rockets (0-0)

  • Guard: Reed Sheppard
  • Guard: Nate Williams
  • Forward: AJ Griffin
  • Forward: Cam Whitmore
  • Center: N’Faly Dante

Los Angeles Lakers (0-0)

  • Guard: Sean East II
  • Guard: Bronny James
  • Forward: Dalton Knecht
  • Forward: Maxwell Lewis
  • Center: Colin Castleton

The NBA does not require official injury reports to be issued before summer league games. While teams will often disclose before tipoff if certain players are unavailable, neither the Rockets nor Lakers had done so for Friday’s game at the time of publication.
