Virginia Basketball | Cavaliers to Compete in Discover Puerto Rico Shootout

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Virginia women’s basketball team will compete in the 2024 Discover Puerto Rico Shootout from Nov. 28-30 as was announced Friday (July 5).

Virginia will take on Green Bay (Nov. 28), Washington State (Nov. 29) and Wyoming (Nov. 30) at Coliseo Guillermo Angulo in the capital city of San Juan.

Additionally, Drake and Norfolk State will also participate the event. Admission to all games is free. Fans can stream each game with a paid subscription to FloHoops.

Virginia Athletics is currently accepting deposits for 2024-25 season tickets. Seat selections will take place this summer once pricing has been finalized. Returning season-ticket holders do not need to place a deposit. Last season, Virginia women’s basketball set a program record for season tickets sold and recorded its highest home attendance average since its 1992 Final Four run.

The Cavaliers enter the 2024-25 season coming off the program’s first postseason appearance and victory since 2018 after advancing to the second round of the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT). UVA concluded last year’s regular-season campaign by winning four of its last six contests. For the first time since 2008-09, the Hoos toppled four ranked opponents, including No. 15 Florida State, No. 20 North Carolina, No. 20 Louisville, and No. 5 Virginia Tech in front of 11,975 spectators, a single-game record among women’s basketball games ever held in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Reigning Horizon League champion Green Bay achieved a 27-7 overall record and went 17-3 in conference play. Upon winning the league’s conference tournament, the Phoenix received an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed. On April 23, Kayla Karius was named Green Bay head coach after former head coach Kevin Borseth retired following a 21-year stint leading the Phoenix.

Last season, Washington State posted a 21-15 overall record and finished 7-11 in Pac-12 action. As a No. 1 seed, the Cougars won three games in the WBIT, advancing to the semifinals in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
