Houston Rockets learn schedule for NBA’s 2024 summer league

The NBA released most of the schedule Friday for its upcoming NBA 2K25 Summer League 2024, which takes place from July 12 through July 22. All 30 teams participate in the annual event, which takes place at the Thomas & Mack Center and Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

In the summer-league opener on July 12, 2024 rookies Dalton Knecht and Bronny James will lead the Los Angeles Lakers in a high-profile matchup versus No. 3 pick Reed Sheppard and the Houston Rockets. That game tips off at 6:30 p.m. Central on ESPN.

In total, all 76 games of the 11-day competition will air live on ESPN platforms (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN+, and ESPN3) or NBA TV. Every game is also available to stream on ESPN’s mobile app.

Each team will play at least five games, including four games from July 12-19. After each team’s first four games, the top four teams dvance to participate in the playoffs, beginning with a semifinal doubleheader on July 21. The two winning teams from the semifinal games will meet in the July 22 championship game.

The four playoff teams are determined by winning percentage in each team’s first four games, with tiebreaker criteria available from the league office. The 26 teams that do not advance to the four-team playoff will play a fifth game on either July 20 or July 21.

Here is the initial 2024 summer schedule for the Houston Rockets, with game five to be determined later. Rosters for each team, which largely skew toward younger prospects, will be released in early July.

  • Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers; tipoff at 6:30 p.m. Central (ESPN broadcast)

  • Houston Rockets vs. Washington Wizards; tipoff at 5:00 p.m. Central (ESPN2 broadcast)

  • Houston Rockets vs. Detroit Pistons; tipoff at 5:30 p.m. Central (NBA TV broadcast)

  • Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves; tipoff at 10:00 p.m. Central (ESPN broadcast)

  • Houston Rockets fifth game, opponent and time TBD

The Houston Rockets went 5-1 in the 2023 summer league, with their only loss coming in the championship game.

Then-rookie Cam Whitmore won MVP honors, and he would seem to be a candidate to return to Las Vegas for more games in 2024.
