Bobby Hurley lands top recruit, Arizona State class ranked No. 4 in nation

After UConn won its second straight national championship, coach Hurley hit the recruiting trail hard, landing multiple five-star recruits and pulling in the top-ranked class in program history.

Just– not the coach Hurley you’re thinking of.

UConn’s Dan Hurley did land five-star guard Liam McNeeley and the No. 11-ranked class in the country according to 247Sports, but his brother Bobby has outdone him this offseason, at least in the eyes of national recruiting analysts.

After flipping four-star 6-5 shooting guard Joson Sanon (Saxtons River, Vt.) from rival Arizona and earning commitments from five-star 6-9 big man Jayden Quaintance (Raleigh, N.C.) and four-star 6-8 forward Amier Ali (Queen Creek, Ariz.), Bobby’s Arizona State Sun Devils now boast the No. 4-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2024, behind only Duke, Alabama and Rutgers.

It will likely go down as the highest-ranked class in Arizona State history, and the top class in the Big 12.

“Busy day for the Hurley brothers,” Dan posted on X Wednesday, as news of Sanon’s commitment broke.

“Just another day in the office for us,” Bobby responded.

Bobby’s recruiting success comes ahead of his 10th season in Tempe. He’s compiled a 155-131 record at Arizona State and guided the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances, each as an 11-seed, never advancing past the Round of 64.

Of course, a highly-touted recruiting class doesn’t automatically equal success, and a less-heralded one doesn’t mean mediocrity, either.

UConn’s 2022 class was ranked 79th, incredibly, behind Iona, Northeastern and St. Thomas (MN). That class included Donovan Clingan. The entire college basketball world knows what’s happened since.

Still, while his brother has been lauded for his genius in recruiting and especially in the transfer portal over the past three offseasons, Bobby has proven that he’s not the only Hurley who can lure big-name players.

As UConn’s Dan Hurley chases back-to-back titles, his brother Bobby watches on in amazement

Maybe a bit of sibling rivalry fueled Bobby’s latest success? Either way, Arizona State has seemingly set itself up to be a national player beginning next season.
