Celtics rule out Kristaps Porzingis for Game 4

After ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported ahead of Game 1 that Kristaps Porzingis was eyeing a possible return in Game 4, the anticipation for his comeback has been building. However, the team announced that it won’t happen in a potential close out game tomorrow.

But after the Celtics‘ thrilling nailbiter last night, that 114-113 win may have given the team a little more room for precaution with KP’s strained calf. With a 3-0 stranglehold on the Eastern Conference Finals, any doubt can be addressed with even more rest.

Earlier today, head coach Joe Mazzulla was noncommittal on a possible timeline. “I don’t know. I can’t say anything. I’m not the doctors,” he said.

The Finals are scheduled to start on June 6th, regardless of how long either conference finals lasts. The Mavericks and Timberwolves tip off their Game 3 later today and the Celtics could wrap up the East tomorrow. That would give Porzingis an additional ten days to heal up and ramp up before his postseason return.

Heading into the close out game, Jrue Holiday and Luke Kornet are listed as questionable. Holiday was given the same injury designation yesterday before sealing Game 3 with an and-1 and steal. Kornet is dealing with a sprained left wrist.
