Texas A&M’s 2024-2025 basketball season is only six months away. Still, it’s never too early to preview what the Aggies will face on the court in conference, especially with Texas and Oklahoma officially entering the SEC in July. After making the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive, Aggies head coach Buzz Williams deserves credit for an incredible late-season turnaround in 2023.
This offseason, the departure of veteran guard Tyrece Radford certainly stings. Still, credit to Williams for strategically attacking the transfer portal last month, landing three prospects in former Nebraska guard CJ Welcher, former Minnesota forward Pharrel Payne, and former SMU guard Zhuric Phelps, who are all expected to contend for starting/key role positions as soon as this summer.
Not to forget star senior guard Wade Taylor IV’s all-important return to the lineup. However, for this team to take the next step towards contending for a title, he’ll need consistent help to accomplish these goals. Other returnees include guard Manny Obaseki, forwards Solomon Washington, and Henry Coleman, so yes, this team doesn’t lack a veteran presence in the starting lineup.
