WNBA: Four EuroLeague Women players trying to make final rosters

Before each WNBA season, players sign training camp contracts in hopes of making a final roster. Regardless of their age and experience, some of them will never get their shot, while others will finally reach their dream and become WNBA rookies. Here are four established players who shined in the 2023-24 EuroLeague Women season and now have a shot at making their debut in the W.

Olivia Époupa (Minnesota Lynx/Çukurova Basketbol Mersin)

Following a stellar performance in the EuroLeague Women Final Four, the French point guard got herself a training camp invite to Minnesota. She might be just 5-foot-5, but the 29-year-old is tough and fearless. As the season progressed, her playing time increased. Throughout the competition, she averaged 4.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals, but during the crucial games, she stepped up. In Mersin’s first quarterfinal game against Zaragoza, she had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while in the semifinal against Fenerbahçe she played her best game this season, with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Époupa has yet to make her WNBA debut, and at this point of her career, it might be now or never.

Brianna Fraser (New York Liberty/KGHM BC Polkowice)

Fraser is no stranger to the grind. Ever since she graduated from Maryland in 2019, she’s won championships in Lebanon, Romania and Poland. Last year, she debuted for the Azerbaijan national team and averaged 14 points and 4.5 rebounds in the two EuroBasket Women qualifiers. At 6-foot-3, she’s a strong big, whose primary weapon is her 2-point game. This season, she made 56 percent of her 2s in EuroLeague Women play, averaging 14.7 points per game for Polkowice. Fraser will turn 27 on May 22.

Virag Kiss (Los Angeles Sparks/Çukurova Basketbol Mersin)

Standing 6-foot-5, Kiss primarily plays close to the rim, and her size and strength allow her to box out the best of them. The 26-year-old is a good rebounder and a reliable defender. Her shot can be a bit off at times, but she’s more than a big body, good for setting screens and making tip-ins. She’s solid in transition and in this EuroLeague Women season she made one-third of her 3-point attempts, proving that she can also stretch the floor. The Hungarian national has only played pro ball in her home country…
