Fans of the Georgetown Hoyas were pleasantly surprised with a Saturday night commitment from 6’5” former Louisville G/F Curtis Williams, Jr. Williams averaged 5.3 points as a freshman, coming to Louisville out of Brother Rice High School in Detroit, where he was a runner-up for the Mr. Basketball award. Williams and another potential transfer are reportedly visiting campus this weekend. Several reports further indicate that Williams is a much better player than his numbers with the Cardinals indicate. He will be an important contributor for Ed Cooley and the Georgetown Hoyas next season.

First the relatively unknown Williams. A freshman at Louisville last year, Williams played on all 32 games, owning a quartet of starts while averaging 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds, experiencing shooting challenges (31.7%/28.7%). Willaims, a Rivals. om four star ranked 77th as a high school senior from ‘The D’ (Detroit) and Brother Rice HS, was recruited by Cooley then, who took over Georgetown’s reins in 2023, after 12 years at Providence. Williams was reportedly the first Louisville player to hit the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-5 Williams made four starts and showed some flashes early on for the Cardinals. Williams averaged 5.3 points a game and scored in double figures six times. He scored a season-high 19 in a win over Florida State on Feb. 3, which was the last time he scored in double figures.

Williams finished the season shooting 31.7 percent from the field, including 28.7 percent from three-point range. He finished the season hitting just five of his final 41 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 30 from three-point range.

A native of Detroit, Mich., Williams committed to Louisville out of a final list that included Alabama, Florida State, Providence and Xavier. He is a former four-star prospect, Williams was ranked No. 125 overall in the national 2023 class
