College basketball transfer portal 2024: Ranking top 70 players as Texas loses Tyrese Hunter, Dillon Mitchell

Texas basketball is in the midst of a significant roster makeover as coach Rodney Terry prepares for his second full season as head coach. On the heels of a 21-13 (9-9 Big 12) campaign that ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Longhorns are bidding farewell to their top four scorers.

While No. 1 scorer Max Abmas and No. 2 scorer Dylan Disu are out of eligibility, No. 3 scorer Tyrese Hunter and No. 4 scorer Dillon Mitchell added to the exodus Monday with the news that both players are expected to enter the transfer portal. Their departures come as Terry is welcoming a fresh wave of talent to Texas in advance of the program’s move from the Big 12 to the SEC.

The Longhorns landed a strong group of transfers over the weekend. Headlining them is former Houston and Arkansas and Houston guard Tramon Mark, who is No. 8 in the CBS Sports Transfer Rankings. Julian Larry and Jayson Kent also committed to Texas on Sunday after starting and averaging double figures for a 32-7 Indiana State team in the 2023-24 season. The trio will combine with five-star freshman guard Tre Johnson and four-star freshman forward Nicolas Codie to comprise an intriguing crop of newcomers.

The spring portal window runs from March 18 to May 1. However, players who have entered the portal by then don’t face a firm deadline on when they must commit. Additionally, graduate transfers and players impacted by coaching changes that occur after May 1 will be able to transfer after the deadline. Players who have also entered the NBA Draft will have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern on May 29 to withdraw if they wish to return to college for the 2024-25 season.

As players enter the portal, we will rank the best of them here. The rankings will be updated regularly as players either enter the portal or announce their intentions to enter the portal.
