It’s safe to say at this moment that Ohio State basketball made the right decision to keep head coach Jake Diebler — at least so far.
For the past few recruiting cycles, the top Ohioans have mostly left the Buckeyes at the altar, with the exception of Devin Royal and Malaki Branham. Ohio State hasn’t struggled with the lower ranked prospects, but it looks like it is going to be different going forward.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ohio’s top 2026 prospect, point guard Marcus Johnson, committed to the Buckeyes. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 175-pound Cleveland native is the nations No. 24 overall prospect and 4th ranked point guard according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
NEWS: Marcus Johnson, the No. 24 overall recruit in the 2026 class, has committed to Ohio State, he tells @247Sports.

The changing of guard at head coach clearly had an impact on Johnson’s decision, it also helps that his cousin, Meechie Johnson, made a return to Columbus after starting his career with the Buckeyes.
Johnson is the first high school commit for Diebler with more to come.
