University of Nebraska sophomore guard Sam Hoiberg was honored this week, as he was selected to the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men’s Basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.
Hoiberg was one of the Huskers’ top bench players, as Nebraska posted a 23-11 record and earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. Hoiberg played in all 34 games, averaging 3.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.9 steals per game. The sophomore guard was second on the team in steals and four in assists while posting a team-best 2.46-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. He had a season-high 15 points against Lindenwood and nine games with at least three assists, including four assists on three occasions. Hoiberg also had eight games with at least five rebounds, including a career-high seven boards against South Carolina State.
In the classroom, he carried a 3.64 GPA in sports media and communications, and is a four-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He is a two-time academic All-Big Ten selection and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2023. Hoiberg is also active in the Huskers’ Life Skills program and was a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2023.
To qualify for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 GPA, be at least a sophomore athletically and meet high academic standards.
