While the Nets’ bench played a key role in the team’s comeback from a 20-point deficit, it was also a display of what could have been if the bench was better in the first half.

In the first half, Brooklyn’s bench combined for nine points, but were also a combined -18 as a testament of how much the team was struggling as a whole.

Day’Ron Sharpe, the Nets’ usual backup center, did not play in this contest and there hasn’t been any indication if him not playing was a injury maintenance issue or a performance issue.

Nets interim head coach Kevin Ollie said after the game that he spoke to Sharpe before the game about the plan to play Clowney as the backup to Nic Claxton instead of Sharpe so it seems that Ollie just wanted to see a different look in a big game.

Aside from that, Lonnie Walker IV, one of Brooklyn’s best scorers when he is on, is still struggling as he shot just 1-for-7 from the field.

This continues a stretch of which Walker has show 25% or less from the field in five of his last six games.

The hope is that he will turn things around soon because Brooklyn’s bench needs him to play well.
