This was clear to see for anyone who watched the Buckeyes play earlier in the year, this team under Diebler was different than it was under Holtmann’s direction. They played at a faster pace, not massive, but pushed the ball more when the opportunity presented itself. The offensive sets were much better, the finishing of halves was impressive. Diebler squeezed more juice out of these players than Holtmann did, and you have to wonder if the move was made earlier, could the Buckeyes have been a shoo-in to make the NCAA Tournament.
It wasn’t just the improvement in play, it was also the rotations Diebler used also, playing the younger players early to see if they were effective against the opponent. That allowed players like Devin Royal, Scotty Middleton, and Taison Chatman to make quality contributions. Overall, it was a great preview to what’s to come for the Buckeyes under Diebler.
