Colorado’s projected NCAA Tournament seed drops after loss to UCLA

The No. 13 Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team is now riding a four-game losing streak after falling to the No. 8 UCLA Bruins on Monday night.

While losing to a ranked team on the road doesn’t exactly constitute a bad loss, it was costly. ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme released his updated NCAA women’s basketball projections on Tuesday morning and Colorado fell to an expected No. 4 seed.

Even more, the Buffs (20-7, 10-6 Pac-12) are now tied for fifth place in the Pac-12 standings. Only the top four teams in the conference receive a first-round bye in the looming Pac-12 tournament.

The Buffs are still set to host first and second-round March Madness games, but a loss to either Washington or Washington State this weekend could push them out of the top 16.

Head coach JR Payne hopes her team can turn its frustrations into working harder.

“I’m sure everybody’s pretty frustrated,” Payne said (h/t CUBuffs.com). “You couldn’t not be. But that’s not a bad thing if it spurs you to work a little bit harder or to tinker a little bit more or be self-reflective on ways that individually we can be better. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”
