Detroit Pistons rookie Marcus Sasser will miss at least one week due to a right knee contusion sustained on Feb. 22 against the Indiana Pacers, the team announced.
Sasser missed his first game of the season on Saturday due to the injury. He went through the Pistons’ shootaround and pregame warmups but was ruled out of playing in a loss to Orlando. The injury isn’t considered serious.
The 25th pick will miss at least the next four games until the team reevaluates him. The earliest date Sasser could return to play is March 5 in Miami.
Sasser is averaging 7.7 points, three assists and 1.5 rebounds on 42.4% shooting from 3-point range in 50 games. He ranks 15th in the league in 3-point percentage and is one of five rookies in franchise history to shoot 40% or better from beyond the arc through 50 career games.
The 23-year-old has scored in double figures 11 times this season, including four 20-point games. He has the opportunity to become the first rookie in history to achieve a 50-40-90 season after shooting 46.7% from the field and 86.8% from the free-throw line.
Sasser has earned praise from the team for his toughness and ability to score. He also received a shout-out from Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green for his poise and knack for playing mistake-free, which has also impressed the organization.
