Guard Khalif Battle named SEC Player of the Week

Arkansas guard Khalif Battle has found his way.

The transfer from Temple started the season as one of Arkansas’ biggest offensive threats, scoring in double figures in eight of his first 10 games as a Razorback. About the time he began to struggle, so did Arkansas.

Over the last week, though, coach Eric Musselman said the Hogs are playing their best, most consistent basketball of the season. It’s no surprise that Battle has returned to his old form and Monday, he was named SEC Player of the Week.

Battle’s 42-point game against Missouri on Saturday resulted in a Razorbacks sweep of their Battle Line rivals and Battle scored the second most points by an Arkansas player in an SEC game ever, trailing on Todd Day’s 43 points scoring 1992.

Earlier in the week, in another Arkansas win against Texas A&M, Battle scored 15, with most of his points coming from the free-throw line, an area Musselman has said time and again the Razorbacks need to win in order to win.

Over his last three games, Battle is averaging 25 points, four rebounds and a steal per game.

Arkansas will look to win a third straight contest Tuesday when the Hogs host Vanderbilt at Bud Walton Arena.
