Women’s Basketball Holds Off Tritons on Home Court

LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree University women’s basketball defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis 74-67 on Saturday afternoon to capture its 19th win of the season. The Bearcats are 19-7 overall and 15-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  

McKendree controlled the lead and the pace of the game, taking an early 15-12 lead after the first 10 minutes. By half, the Bearcats extended their lead to seven with a score of 36-29. McKendree continued its strong third quarter trend, putting up 22 points. The Bearcats’ lead stayed consistent in quarter four for a final score of 74-67.  

Leading the Bearcats in scoring was junior guard Clare Breden who netted 24 points, shooting 11-of-14 from the field and 100 percent from the three-point line with four threes. Senior guard Madyson Harper and senior forward Naomi McDaniel chipped in 14 and 12 points respectively. Senior guard Christy Fortune led the Bearcats on the boards, snagging seven rebounds. McDaniel was relentless on the defensive end as she tallied a career-high seven blocks on the day.  

McKendree had another efficient shooting day, sinking 54 percent of field goals, 66 percent of threes, and 80 percent of free throws.  

Coming up, McKendree plays its final regular season games at home next week against Lewis on Thursday and Indianapolis on Saturday.
