TURNER’S CLUTCH FREE THROWS SEAL JAGUAR’S WIN OVER PENGUINS, 69-63

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women’s basketball team was up by one with a minute left to go before graduate student Jazmyn Turner sunk five free throws to seal the victory over Youngstown State on Wednesday afternoon, 69-63. Turner totaled 15 points while junior Katie Davidson led all scorers with 20 points.
 
IUPUI (5-15, 3-8 HL) shot 82.1 percent (32-for-39) from the free throw line which proved the difference as the Penguins only found themselves at the line 20 times.
 
Youngstown State (8-14, 4-8 HL) made their first seven of eight shots and held the lead at 21-20 with just two minutes left in the quarter. The Jags ended the high-scoring first quarter on a 5-0 run to take the lead, three of those points were sunk at the free throw line. IUPUI impressively committed no fouls in the opening quarter taking the early 25-21 advantage.
 
The Jags held control throughout the next two quarters, outscoring the Penguins in each. Although both teams were pretty even at the free throw line, each scoring six in the second quarter, the Jags took the edge shooting 4-for-16 while the Penguins shot 3-for-16.
 
After leading 39-33 at half, the Jags extended their lead out to 10 points twice in the third quarter. Youngstown State started to inch their way back in with a 6-1 run at 52-46. With just 30 seconds left in the third quarter, Davidson was fouled and sent to the free throw line where she…
