Cougs Take Down No. 2 UCLA in 85-82 Upset

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (January 28, 2024) – Washington State women’s basketball defeated No. 2/4 UCLA, 85-82, Sunday afternoon in the highest-ranked victory in program history.

The Cougars (15-6, 4-4 Pac-12) win their third-straight against the Bruins and earn just their second-ever win in Pauley Pavilion, also getting a win there last season.

WSU shot 54 percent from the floor as a team, including 50 percent from deep, and held a lead for over 36 minutes of the ballgame.

Bella Murekatete led the team with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks, and tied for the team lead with two steals.

Tara Wallack finished with 14 points, 12 of those coming from the free throw line where she went 12-of-14. She also had two rebounds and two assists.

Eleonora Villa scored 18, and dished out three assists.

Charlisse Leger-Walker was the final of four Cougs in double-digit scoring, finishing with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals before exiting with an injury midway through the third quarter.

Kyra Gardner made some big buckets late, adding seven points and two rebounds, while Jenna Villa also had seven points to go with three rebounds, a steal and an assist.
