SEATTLE – The Utah men’s basketball team stays in the Evergreen State as it travels westward to battle the Huskies of Washington on ESPN2 inside Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Ed Pavilion. Dave Feldman is joined by Corey Williams as they call the action beginning at 8 p.m. (MT).
THINNING OUT
Utah has been hit with the injury bug of late with Deivon Smith going down in the first half at Washington State. The Utes are currently without the services of four players – including three starters with the recent injury of Smith. The Runnin’ Utes entered the WSU game without Wilguens Junior Exacte, Lawson Lovering and Rollie Worster before Smith went down on the Palouse.
WASHINGTON MATCH-UPS
With its loss on Wednesday to Washington State, Utah looks to avoid being swept by the Washington schools for just the third time in the Pac-12 Era. The Utes were last swept on the road back in 2013-14 and most recently in 2021-22.
Utah has salvaged a split on the road against the Washington schools four times. The 2012-13 campaign was the lone season Utah’s win in the split came against the Huskies.
LAST TIME OUT
The road woes for Utah continued on Wednesday as it fell to Washington State inside Beasley Coliseum 79-57. The Utes had trouble on the glass, getting out-rebounded 40-29 and also gave up 14 offensive boards to the Cougars – which led to a 21-4 edge in second points in favor of WSU. Branden Carlson did his best to keep Utah within striking distance, scoring 20 points while Gabe Madsen chipped in with 14 points with Keba Keita just shy of a double-double at 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Utes got within a possession of the Cougars with 11:05 left to play but the shorthanded Utah team couldn’t sustain the comeback before falling to the Cougars for just the seventh time in program history.
UP NEXT
Utah will get some reprieve after playing three games in six days as it returns home to open a three-game homestand starting with Colorado on Saturday, Feb. 3. Guy Haberman returns to the Jon M. Huntsman Center and is joined by Earl Watson as they guide fans through the action on Pac-12 Networks beginning at 3 p.m. (MT).
