The Brooklyn Nets (16-21) have had a rough past few weeks as they have done more losing than winning, even against some of the easier opponents in the NBA. As the first few games of January have shown to everyone in the Nets fanbase, the Nets have a tough month ahead of them that could define the rest of their season.
In a recent article by John Schuhmann of NBA.com, he wrote about the strength of schedule rankings for all 30 teams for the month of January. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, they have a tough month ahead of them according to Schuhmann’s rankings in his article.
Per Schuhmann’s numbers, the Nets have the seventh-toughest schedule in the league for January as the cumulative winning percentage of their opponents is (52.8%). It is important to note that Schuhmann’s piece was written prior to the start of the slate of games on Jan. 2 and Brooklyn has played four games since the article was written.
Seemingly in line with the theme of the article, the Nets have gone 1-3 since the beginning of January as they have faced the New Orleans Pelicans, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Portland Trail Blazers with their only win coming against the Thunder. One interesting tidbit from Schuhmann’s article is that the Nets were scheduled for just one instance of a back-to-back for January and that has already passed.
With Brooklyn having won just four of their past 15 games, there has been plenty of talk amongst the Nets fanbase about how the franchise approaches the trade deadline. While there hasn’t been much reporting to give a sense of which way Brooklyn is leaning, January will essentially make the choice for the Nets depending on how they handle their tough schedule ahead.
