Ballo Earns Weekly Honors from Pac-12, USBWA

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona men’s basketball center Oumar Ballo was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week the conference office announced on Dec. 26. Ballo averaged 15.5 points and 16.5 rebounds over two games against Alabama and Florida Atlantic last week.

The awards are voted on each week by members of the media that cover the Pac-12 Conference on a regular basis.

It is the second weekly award for Ballo after he captured player of the week accolades on Nov. 28, 2022 when he helped the Wildcats claim the Maui Invitational crown.

Ballo began the week with 16 points and 12 rebounds in Arizon’s win over Alabama in Phoenix. He followed that up with 13 points and 21 rebounds against FAU. It was the most rebounds by a Wildcat since Jordan Hill in 2008 and gave Ballo his third double-double of the season.

The United States Basketball Writers Association also listed Ballo on the list of the top five players in the country for last week, joining Johnell Davis (FAU), RJ Davis (UNC), Jarod Lucas (Nevada) and Vonterius Woolbright (Western Carolina).

Despite splitting the two games last week, Arizona remained at No. 4 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Wildcats begin Pac-12 play on Friday at California, with tip-off slated for 8:30 p.m. MST on Pac-12 Networks.
